Mono-atomic steps on Au(111)
The ideal compromise for combining AFM at high temperatures and high resolution capability is represented by AFM detection based on the integrated needle-sensor. The image shows mono-atomic steps on Au(111) at RT in UHV in AFM mode, weak rows can be found indicating the presence of the (23 x sqrt(3)) reconstruction (170 nm x 190 nm).
