icosahedral AlPdMn quasicrystal surface
(Result of the month 12/2002)
An exact patch of a Penrose P1 tiling superimposed on an enhanced high-resolution STM image (100 Å x 100 Å) of a terrace of the clean five-fold surface of the icosahedral AlPdMn quasicrystal
Data obtained on an Omicron Variable Temperature STM at the University of St. Andrews in a collaboration between the quasicrystal group at the Surface Science Research Centre at the University of Liverpool and the group of Prof. N.V. Richardson in the Chemistry Department at the University of St. Andrews.
